Wisconsin & Southern OLDM

Early in 2005, Wisconsin & Southern Railroad acquired the rail line north of Saukville to Kiel, Wisconsin, from Canadian National, which was abandoning this piece of its former WC/SOO/MILW line.  WSOR called its new line the "Superior Sub" (its Milwaukee Road name), and soon began a new train, OLDM, to serve customers along the line (though it was later decided that the ML would switch the Superior Sub instead).

On May 18, 2005, after working at Office Depot in Mequon, I decided that it was about the right time to try to find Wisconsin & Southern's OLDM.  I had seen the train earlier in the day, staged next to WSOR's North Milwaukee shops, so I knew the train would be running.  I finally caught up with the train in the town of Fredonia, at Jay Road, and chased it to Random Lake.  (I was going to head up to Adell to catch the train at its next stop, but my truck had other ideas...  As I turned onto WIS-57, my throttle cable broke, leading to a six-hour drive -- at about 10MPH! -- back to the south side of Milwaukee.  Better luck next time!)
