If you place a wager on whether a train will derail... is that considered off-track betting?

There is what appears to be an e BN SD45 behind three BNSF GP7u's and an ex Conrail unit. Could someone verify what unit that BN loco is?

I'm more curious as to how this guy got so close to Silvis!

Sd45-2 per a 2007 LocoNotes post. The B23-7 noted in the description is just WRONG.

Sd45-2 per a 2007 LocoNotes post. The B23-7 noted in the description is just WRONG.

Not even close- BN didn't have any SD45-2s, nor did they have flared radiators. The engine Death Star is asking about is the green BN unit at the far end of the row of units on the right side of the photo, not the old BNSF SD45-2B on the left. From other digital shots I've found of Silvis- it is an old BN SD45, the 6518- here is a shot of it from 2005-

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... ?id=148530

Further research shows the unit was built in 1971 as BN 6518- was returned on lease in August 1986 to National Railway Equipment, Dixmoor, IL. Some reports had it sold for scrap to Pielet Brothers in Chicago, but clearly this is incorrect. The unit at some point in time made the trip from Dixmoor over to Silvis and has been there since at least 2005. Interesting what sorts of things get squirreled away in the back lots of these shop complexes...

The "0-5-0" switcher is also commonly referred to in some model railroading circles as the human hand. 5 fingers...0-5-0...get it? 8-)

But there's no steamers in that pic. I don't understand and now for some reason, have a craving for donuts!

Drive in - grab shot - drive out. Been there, done that.

Is it just my imagination, or does the junk at Silvis look more junky than it did in years past???

Isn't that the norm for junk when it sits around? The critters, vandals, and Mother Nature all take their toll.
