Not sure I'd be willing to brake the elements with this tire 'mod', but it's creative for sure ;)

Ha! Nice. Think I'll just stick with avoiding the snow while biking, and/or taking it real easy over snow and/or ice. Tires on the Trek seem just fine for such situations...

So... Anybody going to take advantage of the above-freezing temperatures at the end of the year to get in a little more 2010 mileage...??? :swg:

Cold weather + Snow/Ice + plastic pieces under load from tire/rider = FAIL. I guess if push comes to shove it'd be better than nothing though.

If you want to ride on snow, this is what you should get: http://surlybikes.com/bikes/pugsley_complete/

I hope to have one sooner rather than later to hit snowmobile trails in the winter.

I've run studded tires in the winter; good on ice and packed snow. Not good on pavement and fluff of course. Heavy too.

Plastic + cold = broken zip ties. Pointless.

:? I would not recommend riding a a bike on the snowmobile trails, they go a lot faster than you can, not to mention, when they pass they spit snow everywhere, so unless u wear a full faced helmet, your face will get very cold as soon as a few sleds go by, plus and I don't know this for sure, but wouldnt that be illegal, I think the trail has to be marked for bikes, its the same thing with some trails being marked for no sleds, etc.

I know how fast sleds go; I recently used to have one.

You can legally cross-country ski on snowmobile trails and that's going even slower; I doubt anyone will give a crap about a lone cyclist :) That, and within so many feet of a person, by law the sled needs to be operating at 10mph or below. I've hiked along many trails on public land for photography in the winter and have never had a problem with sleds going too fast or had problems with sleds spitting snow either. Hell, I'm biking in winter, what's a little snow anyways? :D

You'd probably also suggest I don't ride a bike on roads because cars can go faster than me too.

I don't care what anyone says those are awesome looking tires. Gives the bike a "Tonka" look.

:D
