Just updated the 3um with a new mod, "the humanizer". It requires registrants to answer a question ("Are you human?"), which should stop most spambots... though I suspect that some will still get through, so that might be a good time to switch things around a bit...

Installed another anti-spam mod this afternoon (Confusabot ACP), though it really shouldn't affect any "normal" users. But after four new spammers showed up this morning  I figured it was a good time to do something else!

Also, I'll be updating to phpBB 2.0.22 soon...

Well, the humanizer and ConfusaBot didn't really do much, so I ended up installing the Anti-Spam ACP mod, which e-mails me if a spambot tries to sign up. Sure enough, I get an e-mail today that somebody tried to sign up with some "extra information", including URLs for "free p o r n o"! :censor: :x :censor: :x :censor: :x Nonetheless, I'm pretty happy that it is working, and hopefully the 3um will remain spam-free for the foreseeable future...

Argh, I've still been getting spam registrations, though none have been able to post. So, tonight I will be installing a new mod, Anti-Bot Question Mod, which will replace the inadequate "Captcha" (image with letters on it) with a question that must be answered correctly to allow registration. Hopefully all will go well!

Well, the Anti-Bot Question seems to have been installed successfully. After the last large batch of automated registrations, I just couldn't take it any more! But things seem to be working okay, and I have also de-modded the Humanizer, as it was completely ineffective for stopping bots that had already become wise to said mod. :x I test-registered once, and it seemed to work well. I'm going to watch for any more Spam Attempts e-mails, and if I get none, I will probably ease the restrictions on website and signature for new members.

Looking forward to a more bot-free 3um,
