If you place a wager on whether a train will derail... is that considered off-track betting?

http://www.thecitypages.com of Wausau reported in November 2010 that the town of Kronenwetter will get $440,000 toward a bike path on the railroad R-O-W from Kowalski Road to Maple Ridge Road. That's about a 3 mile stretch between Mosinee and and Rothschild. It would end south of the Weston power plant. It is along old highway 51 and the WC/CN tracks.

Also, Wausau will be adding trails along the west side of the scenic Wisconsin River, northwest of the downtown. And they are investigating adding a structure to the side of the rail bridge between Barker Stewart Island and the EastBay area on the west side of the river. The RR has agreed to allow it, if it is funded. The former CNW and Milw Road ran on the island. People have been walking the bridges to cross the river. This could make it safer and without trespassing on the railroad bridges.

I haven't found a good website to explain what this nice city park island has. It had 3 rail bridges to it and two are still in use for a switch job, but probably not daily anymore. This site has a map showing it:

There is a switch job that uses those two bridges, but as you said not daily. I'm not sure if CN still has a schedule for that switch job anymore, but they use to serve Graphic Packaging about every other day. The bridge on the east side of the island is the former Milwaukee Road access to the island. It was recently converted into a walking bridge. The CNW access to the island was the bridge to the south. They entered the island by crossing over the rapids on a two piece through truss bridge, and then on a much smaller span. To my knowledge the Milwaukee Road served the industries north of the Island on the west side. But I'm sure MILW and CNW had some shared agreement at some point.

Also on Baker-Steward Island are the remnants of the old saw mill which can still be seen.

I know Wausau wants to expand their trail system along the river. The proposed route is suppose to start at Schofield Park on the north side of Wausau, and stretch to at least Oak Island (Which isn't really an island anymore).
