I spotted this SOO saw-tooth box car many years ago on a siding in a Ladysmith business park, then found it fully restored last year and wondered what it was for:
Pre-restoration in 2007...
(I'm curious as to what happened to the passenger car? Anyone know?)
Restored at the library...
Apparently the box car was to be used as a children's reading room for the local library, based on the book "Boxcar Children" as described
in this article in the Ladysmtih News. However, the box car got moved down the street to the Ladysmith visitor center to be with the rest of the Soo display, which I think is a better choice (although I think the idea of having a wood box car as a reading room is pretty neat and would've loved that as a kid!)
They posted the move on their Facebook page as a video... it's interesting how they opted to move it! I'm surprised the street doesn't have a bunch of ruts in it!:
