I've read on several forums that CN has purchased 35 ex-UP, exx-CNW C40-8s and they've been patched from UP to CN. Anyone have any confirmation and/or photos of these?

Yep, it's true! Here is a photo, unless you are a trainorders member, you'll have to look at it small. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/r ... ?1,2182068

The bad thing is it sounds like we won't be seeing many of these, as they are supposed to be reconfigured for DPU service in Canada. Rumor also has it CN may be interested in some C40-8Ws from BNSF for the same service.

Here's a better shot of the ex-UP C40-8, judging by the spray painting I bet these won't be in UP paint for very long, they might actually look pretty decent in CN paint. http://hostovsky.com/%7EWDM/cn2113.jpg

Heck,

I don't know where CN's big paint shops are (Homewood maybe?) but perhaps they could contract WSOR to do the work and any 'refitting' at Horicon. These can't be any worse than the Mexi-wrecks.

This weekend wouldn't be a bad weekend to fan the CN up here. I am thinking of taking a trip down to the Waukesha Sub Saturday.

That's not a bad job of freehanding that CN 'noodle' logo onto that long hood!

CN's main paint shops are at Homewood and Centralia, they also have some repaints done at Mid-American Car.

I'm curious if they're going to go any further north or if they will be repainted while at Centrailia, it seems CN has recently been doing more repaints down there instead of doing them all at Woodcrest.

Ahh this is great news! It'll be so nice seeing them in black and red! Get them out of that bland, awful UP scheme ASAP, CN! Please!

I plan on being trackside basically after 1:30 PM today until dark if I can manage it. Depends on my son. Any traces/updates/info are welcome.

Well they still haven't left Centralia yet; maybe they're waiting for them all to get there?
