If you place a wager on whether a train will derail... is that considered off-track betting?

When the WSOR runs its business train with three E9s pulling relatively few cars, how many of the prime movers do they operate? I've examined a bunch of photos, and I don't see heat distortion from the exhaust of the B-unit. I wonder if they even need more power than is provided by the lead A-unit.

Different subject: What is the purpose of the pair of large objects flanking the hatch on the front of #101? I assume it has something to do with some sort of snow removal equipment, but I haven't found a photo of these mounts being used for anything on an E-unit on any line.

The B-unit only provides HEP to the passenger cars, at least it did on one of the trips out of Milwaukee a few years ago.

The HEP unit is in the back of 101. This provides the power for lights, heat, AC, etc., throughout the train. 102 just provides power to move the train.

It depends on how much power a person wants to use. Sometimes all 6 are running.

The objects flanking the front door are lift rings. Most MILW E and F units had these.
