If you place a wager on whether a train will derail... is that considered off-track betting?

I catch a few trains here n there either in Monroe or Madison and Janesville when time allows. http://www.flickr.com/photos/wsor4025wict617/ is where u can see my pics. I have tried n tried to upload pics here but i get this Error Message everytime The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 384 KiB.
So i guess my pics are shot in a bigger format than is allowed on here.

At 6:36 p.m. last night WSOR 1506 and 1503 called the dispatcher to say they were leaving the Madison yard. They called themselves L464. They were moving light and crossed Washington Avenue. I started to chase them but I never saw them again.

According to my info, they should have been going to watertown.

It seems like the L464/L468 job that runs MWF changes symbols as needed and goes where they're needed. I've seen them running up to Lycon on the Watertown sub, out on the Cottage Grove sub, and down to VitaPlus and Madison News/Wisconsin State Journal on the Central Soya sub.

On Wednesday's and Friday's they seem to depart the Madison yard pretty consistently between 6 and 7 p.m. But on Monday's for about two months they've already been at work at Lycon at 4 p.m.

I have pictures of L468, L464, and T6 mixed in with my flickr account:

Tonight around 6:35 p.m. WSOR 1506 and 1503 left the Madison yard with about ten covered hoppers--all looked like grain covered hoppers. The train symbol was L468. They headed towards the Monona Terrace and left all but one covered hopper somewhere nearby. 1506 and 1503 then crossed the Monona Bay with an old Soo Line ACF covered hopper and went straight to VitaPlus. They pulled two Soo Line covered hoppers from VitaPlus and left the one they came with. They pushed the two empties back towards downtown Madison. I grabbed a shot while they did a brake test before heading back downtown:

Last night (Monday) L468 went on duty after 6 p.m. Around 6:30 p.m. WSOR 3801 came down to VitaPlus on the Central Soya sub with one Soo Line covered hopper:

They left with another Soo Line covered hopper and headed back to the yard crossing over Monona Bay:

Here they were just about to appear behind the building on Baldwin Street:

After dropping off the covered hopper, they picked up two loaded tank cars, a loaded covered hopper, and an RBL. They headed out on the Watertown sub. They left those cars between Winnebago Street and Cory Street. Then they ran light up to Lycon and pulled six empty cement covered hoppers. They added a flare to the rear car and returned to Junction A. They left the covered hoppers on the line to Watertown at the junction, coupled back on to their previous cars, and headed down the Cottage Grove sub. They left the RBL at Central Storage & Warehouse and headed to Cottage Grove where they started switching Landmark Services Co-op. After more than three hours of chasing this train I headed home content after seeing them on three different subs/spurs.

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. I saw WSOR 1506 and 1503 go east light under University Avenue in Madison. They were moving along at a nice clip. After a few minutes they called the dispatcher to give back a warrant for the Prairie sub. They signed off as L464.

I've been under the impression that recently the only train that works in Madison in the evening (6 p.m. to midnight) is L468/L464 and that they only work MWF. Sal's WSOR spreadsheet lists L468 and L464 as working Monday through Saturday. Has anyone seen or heard either of these train on Tuesday's, Thursday's, or Saturday's?

Last night I chased 1506 and 1503 on L468. At the beginning of their shift they confirmed with the dispatcher that they'd go to Vita, something that sounded like "berg", Cottage Grove, and put together T6. They switched headed out on the Central Soya sub to switch the newspaper printer and then VitaPlus:

After returning to the yard they headed out on the Watertown sub with six gondolas and a tank car.

It seems like the 468 keeps this schedule in the winter. Last winter, I could turn on the scanner at any given moment on MWF evenings and be sure to hear the 468 either in Madison or CG.

can't wait to get back and see some WSOR!
