Thanks, Dereck. I went with your Fs. Are they normal power for the KJRY? If so, I think I need to figure out how to stop in their neighborhood on my way back to Chicago some time!

From what I understand, the Fs are normal power on the train out of Peoria. They normally meet the train out of Keokuk and swap trains at Good Hope, but that day they were taking the Fs for their 92 day inspection so they were running west of Good Hope which is supposed to be pretty rare. The two As are the only units in Keokuk Jct paint, the rest of their power is leased from their parent company (PREX?) and wears their simple black and yellow. The Fs are ex-Algoma Central, the two running As are painted KJRY, the running B and two parts As are still in Algoma silver.

Thanks, Dereck. I'll have to see if I can make it out to see them next time I drive back that way (my upcoming April trip is via the CZ).

Monday is "usually" the "Best" day to get them departing west from Mapleton (Peoria area) but as with all railroads, especially shortlines, things can change. We've always fuond someone at Mapleton and just asked them. The west train normally has a trio of GP20s-also quite rare these days. Best bet is to try and get there before the corn gets too high.

Good luck.

Chris, I have Mondays off... Let me know a couple of days in advance if you're going to hit up the Fs on a Monday and I'll see about heading down that way.

Catching up on my emails, I see on the Peoria Rails list that this past Monday NONE of the F units were at Mapleton/Kolbe. There was a GP20 and "GP16" so you guys might want to check before making the drive. I know Peoria is 4 hrs for me, and it's much longer for Derrick.

Don't shoot the messenger LOL

LOL...it's about 13 hours or so for me, so it'd be something I check up on before I head there for sure. Thanks for the info, though!

The Geeps were still on the east train as of Thursday. SOmeone reported seeing the covered wagons at the shop in La Harpe.
